Authorities in Thessaloniki have dismantled a criminal organization responsible for a string of home burglaries in the city’s central district. The gang’s stolen goods are valued at over €500,000 — including jewelry, antiques, cash, and other valuables.
Two Arrested, Third Suspect Named
On Thursday, 25 June 2026, two men were arrested in connection with the crimes. A third suspect has been formally named in an official file, though he remains at large. According to investigators, the group — along with several associates — had been operating since at least December 2025, targeting residential buildings in central Thessaloniki.
Methodical and Organized Tactics
The suspects used a highly coordinated approach: they studied potential targets in detail, bypassed high-security locks, and waited for residents to be away before breaking in. One member acted as a lookout, stationed outside building entrances — a role confirmed by surveillance and witness accounts.
In one recent case, police apprehended a 36-year-old foreign national caught red-handed after stealing jewelry, silverware, and coins worth approximately €55,000 from an apartment. Hours later, a 26-year-old compatriot — identified as the designated lookout — was also taken into custody.
Scale of the Crimes
By Wednesday — just before the arrests — the group had broken into at least eight homes. Their total haul includes items valued at more than €531,360, plus over €54,000 in cash. Among the seized assets were 253 keys, seven master keys, a magnetic drawer-opening tool, 17 plastic door-entry cards, a portable radio, a diamond detector, and various tools including drills, grinding wheels, hammers, and crowbars.
Also confiscated were branded clothing, footwear, accessories, and foreign currency — including €790, £55, and U.S. dollars.
Charges and Next Steps
The suspects face charges related to participation in a criminal organization and aggravated theft. They are expected to appear before the competent judicial authority in the coming days.
