Ongoing investigations by authorities aim to uncover the reasons and masterminds behind the deadly bank bombing in Thessaloniki that claimed the life of a 38-year-old courier on May 3, 2025. Police had prior information about the plans of the thief and accomplice of the victim before the fatal explosion that terrified residents. According to Kathimerini newspaper (May 6, 2025), the thief allegedly plotted something significant from within prison, though it remains unclear whether this involved the bank bombing. Authorities are also searching cells of detained members of the terrorist group ‘Retribution Syndicate’ for evidence. The history of the anarchist thief dates back to early 2024 when the Anti-Terrorism Unit dismantled the criminal organization, which had struck five times, including one case involving threats against the President of the Court of Appeals of Thessaloniki. The trial of the alleged accomplice is scheduled for March 15. Simultaneously, authorities are investigating the role of a 36-year-old who rented an apartment in Ladadika under his real name. He has been linked to fraud and drug-related cases in the past and remains at large. Both the 36-year-old and the deceased 38-year-old appear to have been pawns used in executing the attack.
