In response to the murder of Vagia Nestor — mother of politician Aphrodite Nestor — following a series of arson attacks in Thessaloniki, Arkas published a stark, chilling sketch on 2 July 2026.
A Silent Statement in Ink
The drawing features only a coffee lighter — a clear reference to the incendiary devices used by attackers targeting apartment buildings linked to politicians from Greece’s New Democracy party (often referred to colloquially as the ‘blue’ political camp). From the lighter, bright red blood spurts — a visceral commentary on the brutal killing of Vagia Nestor.
Tragedy and Aftermath
The attack left Vagia Nestor dead and injured four others — including her husband and her daughter, MP Aphrodite Nestor. Authorities have launched a full investigation, now led by Greece’s Anti-Terrorism Unit. Investigators are focusing on anti-establishment and anarchist circles, particularly groups active around the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTh).
