A 58-year-old woman from Sri Lanka has been accused of throwing caustic liquid at her 36-year-old ex-partner in Thessaloniki, Greece. The incident occurred on Sunday evening (June 22) when the male victim, originally from Bangladesh, returned to Greece from his home country and arrived at Macedonia Airport en route to Crete, where he lives and works. The woman, with whom the man had previously been involved but had ended their relationship two years ago, was waiting for him at the airport. According to the victim’s statement, she requested a conversation hoping to reconnect, but he refused, leading to an argument. Eventually, to calm things down, the man agreed to visit her home, where another verbal altercation ensued. When the man left around midnight, the woman reportedly followed him and threw the caustic liquid at his face as he reached the entrance of his building. Feeling severe burns, the man sought help at a nearby store and was subsequently transported by ambulance to Papageorgiou Hospital. The woman was arrested shortly afterward and taken to the Leukos Pyrgos police station. She faces charges of domestic violence with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and will be questioned further by the examining magistrate.
