A 37-year-old man was released on bail with restrictive conditions after being arrested for attempting to secretly film a 45-year-old woman in the women’s restroom of the Kalamaria Municipal Sports Center in Thessaloniki. The incident occurred on Tuesday, May 12, 2026.
The woman had accompanied her son to a traditional dance festival held at the facility when she entered the restroom. She noticed one of the two women’s toilets was locked and heard a male voice respond with “Someone else” when she knocked. Moments later, she saw movement beneath the partition between stalls—and realized a man was holding a smartphone, actively recording her.
She had already partially undressed at that point. Shocked and alarmed, she immediately tried to grab the phone from under the divider—but he pulled it away. After quickly dressing, she rushed to the adjacent stall and began shouting, banging on doors, and demanding he come out. He eventually emerged, claiming he had ‘gotten confused’ and denying he had a phone—though she saw it lying on the floor.
She alerted staff, who called police. During a search of the suspect’s home, authorities seized photographs and videos depicting semi-nude and nude women. His lawyer, Sotiris Nastas, stated that none of the material had ever been shared or posted online, nor could any individuals be identified from it, as faces were not captured.
In his statement to investigators, the suspect expressed remorse: “I regret what I did and first and foremost apologize to my own family. From now on, with God’s help, I will try to move forward with my life.”
A court determined he posed no flight risk and deemed his personal circumstances and character suitable for conditional release. Specific terms of his bail were not disclosed.
