On Sunday morning (May 11, 2025), a 36-year-old Airbnb tenant on Olympiou Diamantou Street in Thessaloniki was taken into custody. This location is believed to be where the bomb was constructed, which tragically detonated in the hands of a 38-year-old woman as she attempted to place it outside a bank, resulting in her death. According to reports, the suspect insists he was unaware that he was transporting an explosive device to the apartment in Thessaloniki. He claims to have received instructions via Viber from a man he does not personally know but has worked with in the past. The 36-year-old was brought before the prosecutor after his interrogation, and it was decided to detain him. Criminal charges include forming and joining a criminal organization, causing an explosion posing potential danger to people, supplying, possessing, and manufacturing explosives, damaging foreign property, and illegal possession of weapons. According to ERT, the suspect denies knowing the victim and claims no involvement with the explosive device, stating he only transported it.
