Prosecutors in Thessaloniki have filed charges of attempted homicide and weapons law violations against a 29-year-old Romanian woman accused of stabbing her 24-year-old partner in the city’s Ano Poli (Upper Town) district.

Detained Pending Testimony

The suspect was referred to the 7th Regular Investigating Judge of Thessaloniki and granted a deadline to testify on Friday, 26 June 2026. She remains in custody until then.

Defense Highlights History of Domestic Abuse

Her lawyer, Margarita Symeonidou, stated that the woman is a survivor of domestic violence — not the first time she had suffered physical abuse. According to Symeonidou, the attack occurred amid extreme fear following yet another incident of assault, including a prior attempt by the victim to strangle her. The lawyer emphasized that the woman acted in self-defense, calling emergency services herself after the incident. Notably, previous episodes of violence had not been formally reported to authorities.

Details of the Incident

According to police, the violent episode unfolded yesterday around 10 a.m. inside a ground-floor apartment after an argument escalated. The woman allegedly attacked her partner with two knives.

As a result, the 24-year-old sustained serious injuries — including wounds to the lung, lower abdominal area, and hand. He was rushed by EKAB (National Emergency Medical Service) ambulance to Papageorgiou Hospital, where he underwent emergency surgery and remains hospitalized.

The two knives used in the attack were seized as evidence. A forensic medical examination has also been ordered to be included in the official case file.
