Thessaloniki: 15 Strep Cases Found After 5-Year-Old’s Death – Five Schools Closed in Eukarpia

At least 15 people tested positive for strep following extensive checks by the National Public Health Organization (EODY) in Eukarpia, Thessaloniki, after the death of a 5-year-old child who succumbed to necrotizing sepsis caused by the infection. According to ERT, nine children and six parents have tested positive for strep. Additionally, five schools will remain closed in Thessaloniki as precautionary measures are taken. Specifically, today, five schools in the Eukarpia area, within the municipality of Pavlos Melas, will remain shut down while specialized teams conduct disinfections of affected areas. By order of the mayor, the 3rd Kindergarten of Eukarpia, the 1st, 2nd, and 4th Primary Schools, as well as the 2nd Gymnasium of Eukarpia, will not operate. Meanwhile, EODY conducted diagnostic tests on children, parents, and educational staff at the 3rd Kindergarten of Eukarpia and other school units yesterday.
