Greek Development Minister Takis Theodorikakos expressed satisfaction with the new facilities built by Aegean Airlines at Athens International Airport ‘Eleftherios Venizelos’ following a site visit, calling the project an emblematic investment.
A Tour of Technical and Training Infrastructure
The minister was hosted by Eftychios Vasilakis, Chairman of Aegean’s Board of Directors, and toured the airline’s new Technical Base and Crew Training and Flight Simulation Centre. His visit included inspection of aircraft maintenance, repair, and technical inspection facilities, as well as crew training areas.
66-Million-Euro Investment Recognized as Strategic
The Aegean investment — valued at over €66 million — has been officially designated as an ‘Emblematic Investment of Exceptional Importance’ by the Greek government. It includes €13 million in co-financing from the Ministry of Development.
Theodorikakos received a detailed briefing on the Technical Base’s operations and capabilities. He also visited the Flight Simulation Centre, which houses four state-of-the-art full-flight simulators for Airbus, Boeing, and ATR aircraft — supporting comprehensive pilot training.

At the conclusion of his visit, the minister described the project as ‘a critically important, outstanding, and emblematic investment — because it is an investment in safety and in the protection of human life, which remains our absolute priority.’
He emphasized the government’s commitment to supporting Greek aviation and domestic enterprises, adding: ‘We back Greek aviation with action — through swift, transparent investments that guarantee the safe mobility of citizens.’
