Job opportunities for young people and enhanced security for Greece are being created through the new Development Law, according to Development Minister Theodorikakos at the 5th OT FORUM. “Our economy needs deep transformation focusing on industry, processing, and innovation,” he emphasized. The new Development Law offers one billion euros in incentives and creates special support regimes for border regions and districts below 70% of the national average. The aim is to retain youth in their hometowns by providing good, stable jobs where they can build their families. Additionally, Theodorikakos highlighted the importance of absolute transparency in managing public funds. “I have a personal creed: Transparency everywhere, for everyone, and for everything. Especially when it comes to Greek taxpayer money, we must be fully accountable,” he stated. Over 1,400 incomplete investment projects from previous development laws have been identified, leading to the recovery process of half a billion euros. The minister stressed the creation of quality jobs, citing examples of companies offering high salaries but struggling to find staff. “Our future is built through work; there’s no other way forward,” he remarked. Regarding living costs and housing issues, Theodorikakos noted that while government measures like annual rental subsidies are helping, the real solution requires shifting towards a productive model based on sustainable economic activities.
