The Tokyo Olympics started formally with the opening ceremony and Greece entering the stadium first as always, as the country that “gave birth” to the event.

The Greek delegation was not represented by the 83 Greek athletes who are in Japan, as due to the coronavirus, the presence of all was not allowed.

The Greek flag was carried for the first time by two athletes, as in all countries, with the gold medalists, Anna Korakaki and Lefteris Petrounias sharing the honor.
