The “Social and political participation of young people in environmental issues” at a meeting of partners of the programme STEP that is carried out in Heraklion

of young people in environmental issues,” will take place in Heraklion, with the organization of the Region of Crete.
To the STEP Programme, which is funded by the Horizon 2020, aims to attract young people and their participation in public consultation processes for environmental licensing, as well as in decision-making on environmental issues across Europe. Utilizes, at the same time, electronic tools for consultation and multilingual communication on the active inclusion of the young generation, in participatory decision-making processes.
The implementation of the programme is being implemented on a pilot basis in four countries (Italy, Spain, Turkey and Greece), with the Region of Crete to be a key partner and one of the partners of pilot application. For the implementation of the programme, have been analysed among other things the possibilities, ways and incentives to raise the awareness of young people in the island of Crete, on the basis of the current socio-economic conditions, the main interests of the new generation, and how to access and participation of young people in topical issues, through social networking tools, electronic access and communication.
During the first day of the meeting, was presented to the partners of the programme, the online communication platform-a consultation developed by the competent scientific group, for the improvement and adjustment to the needs and specificities of each pilot application. In this context, and with the participation of executives of the Region of Crete and other stakeholders, developed an open debate, for the use of electronic tools for consultation, and optimization for the efficient use of the new citizens of Crete, but also for the implementation of the methodology in the consultation processes for the environmental authorisation in accordance with national legislation in force. The meeting and open discussion was also attended by the Regional Councillor of Crete, and a Lecturer in International and European Issues, George Alexakis, who at the time of insertion, and welcoming the initiative and innovative approach of the European Project STEP, pointed out: the importance of utilizing a new methodology to attract the younger generation to environmental issues and decision-making around these, the value of the public consultation for the optimization of environmental studies and new projects, the need for activation and effective operation of administrative procedures consultation, and the importance of the viability of the innovative methodology of the European Programme, after the end of the completion. The meeting continued with a closed discussion of the partners on the progress of the deliverables of the Project. Dr. Helen Αγγελογιαννάκη, executive of the department of the Environment and Spatial Planning in the IP Chania, presented the pilot project of the Region of Crete as a partner-pilot.
The European Programme, STEP, is being implemented in the Region Crete by the Directorate of Environment and Spatial Planning, in cooperation with other strains of competent services and the four Regional Sections. In the two-day partners meeting was also attended by the members of the Working Group in Crete: New york. Βώτσογλου (IP Rethymno), Zechariah Γκούσκος (IP Lasithi), Roula Papadopoulou (IP Lasithi), Peace of Boarfish (IP Heraklion).
