The Greek “password” is as important for the security of your electronic transactions as the lock that protects your home. And that’s because the password is easy enough to break into. CORVERSE According to Forbes, the software company anyIP found that “password” was the most commonly used connection credentials—in the US, the word “password” is the “third most popular password” , according to researchers, but holds “first place” in Australia and the United Kingdom. The next on the list of most easy-to-use passwords were “qwerty123”, “qwerty1” and “123456”, of which the latter is “particularly widespread due to its ease of recall”. CORVERSE For the findings, they used the results of the NordPass investigation and data that analysed how often specific passwords were used in attempts to breach. “Almost 50% of the most commonly used passwords around the world this year consists of simple keyboard patterns of letters and numbers,” said anyIP researchers. According to NordPass’ list of 200 worst passwords around the world, “123456” was used over 3 million times. “These findings highlight the alarming prevalence of predictable and easily violated passwords,” Forbes the co-founder of anyIP, Khaled Bentoumi told.
