The impressive Information Centre of the Natural Park of Psiloritis, in the building of the ΑΚΟΜΜ-ΨΗΛΟΡΕΙΤΗΣ ODL OTA in the village of Anogia was inaugurated by the regional Governor of Crete F. Arnaoutakis

The Information Centre of the Natural Park of Psiloritis, in the building of the ΑΚΟΜΜ-ΨΗΛΟΡΕΙΤΗΣ ODL OTA in Anogia… inaugurated yesterday afternoon the Governor of Crete Stavros Arnaoutakis in the presence of the President of the Hellenic National Committee of UNESCO, Aikaterini–Maria Παπαχριστοπούλου – Τζιτζικώστα, Αντιπεριφερειαρχών Mary Lionis, Nikos Kalogeris, Theano Βρέντζου, Euripides Κουκιαδάκη, the Mayors of Anogia Manolis Kallergis, Greece Dimitris Red, Heraklion Claus Lamprinou, Regional, Municipal Councillors, representatives of institutions, employers ‘ organizations, services, and citizens.
The work of creation-of the construction of the Information Centre of the Natural Park financed with a budget of eur 340,000 euro, which was ensured by the Region of Crete through the NSRF.
The regional Governor of Crete Stavros Arnaoutakis in his brief address thanked for the cooperation-the synergy of all the actors, services, for the creation of the Information Centre has announced the design and implementation of the Region of Crete for a new programme which will involve the connection of three areas of UNESCO in Crete (Psiloritis, Sitia, Samaria) and sharing them with the aim of strengthening the rural tourism.
The Governor also accepted the proposal of the President of the Hellenic National Commission of UNESCO for the signing of the cooperation protocol between the Region of Crete and the Hellenic National Commission of UNESCO (the third in a row in Greece after the Region of Epirus and Athens) on the subject of Culture.
The Natural Park of Psiloritis, was created in 2001 by the ΑΚΟΜΜ-ΨΗΛΟΡΕΙΤΗΣ ODL OTA, with the scientific support of the Natural History Museum of Crete. On 17 November 2015, the General Conference of UNESCO established and recognized area of the Natural Park of Psiloritis, as a “Geopark” by UNESCO”.
For the emergence of – view and information of the activities of the Natural Park and the wider view of natural and cultural resources of the region, the Municipality of Anogia created the Information Centre of the Geopark Psiloritis, which operates in a suitably shaped space in the ground floor of the building of the ΑΚΟΜΜ-ΨΗΛΟΡΕΙΤΗΣ ODL OTA in Anogia, Rethymno.
The main task of the Information Center is the education and sensitization of visitors, students, teachers, and social groups for the rational management of natural resources of the Geopark through specially designed programs visit and tour.
Present in yesterday’s opening gave and the former Mayor of Anogia, Giorgis Branch, initiator of creation of the ΑΚΟΜΜ-ΨΗΛΟΡΕΙΤΗΣ ODL OTA, while the director of Dimitris Pattakos guided the guests into the impressive premises of the Information Centre.
