One of the most significant sports infrastructure projects emerging from Lamda Development’s transformation of the former Athens International Airport site — The Ellinikon Sports Park — officially opened its gates today to host the EKO Acropolis Rally. The rally’s special stage marks the first activation of a series of nearly completed sports facilities at Ellinikon, which will be gradually handed over to the public throughout the summer.

A landmark urban regeneration project

Located on the grounds of the former Ellinikon Airport, the new sports complex represents the first major public opening of Lamda Development’s large-scale urban renewal initiative. Today’s event — held on 25 June 2026 — signals the official debut of the venue for broad public use.

Spanning 287,000 square metres, The Ellinikon Sports Park is a cornerstone of the wider redevelopment effort reshaping Athens’ coastal zone. Designed to serve elite athletes, sports clubs, and local residents alike, the facility prioritises modern, accessible spaces for sport, fitness, and recreation.

An international-standard sports hub

Beyond the rally stage, the park will feature a wide range of world-class facilities, including:

  • Football pitches
  • Basketball courts
  • Tennis courts
  • Track and field facilities
  • Aquatic sports infrastructure
  • Recovery and wellness centres

The complex will also include a 124-room sports hotel, open-air training areas, dedicated running and cycling paths, and flexible venues capable of hosting both everyday athletic activity and high-level international competitions.

Setting the stage for major events

Hosting the EKO Acropolis Rally’s iconic special stage serves as an early demonstration of the park’s intended role: supporting top-tier international sporting events while remaining fully accessible to the public year-round. Once fully operational, The Ellinikon Sports Park is expected to rank among Greece’s largest and most advanced sports complexes — and a pivotal milestone in the broader Ellinikon investment, which continues to redefine Athens’ seaside landscape.
