The Ellinikon — Europe’s largest urban regeneration project — has entered a new chapter in Athens’ daily life with the phased opening of The Ellinikon Sports Park, a modern, inclusive space dedicated to sport, recreation, and wellbeing. Open to everyone, the park marks the first major milestone of the broader Ellinikon redevelopment. Its first phase officially opens to the public on 20 July 2026, aiming to reconnect the city with sport, nature, and a higher quality of life.
A New Hub for Athens and Beyond
Residents of municipalities adjacent to the Ellinikon site — including southern suburbs across greater Attica — as well as visitors from across the region will now have access to the country’s most advanced sports park. Spanning 287,000 square metres — of which 115,000 are open green spaces — the facility forms part of the wider Ellinikon Park masterplan.
The Sports Park welcomes athletes, clubs, families with children, and people of all ages who value fitness, wellness, and nature. Its state-of-the-art facilities support training, exercise, walking, and leisure — transforming how residents engage with physical activity and outdoor life.

A Preview of Things to Come
In recent days, the park hosted the high-profile EKO Acropolis Rally 2026 special stage — a testament to its readiness and scale. The event drew 57 international crews from 24 countries and attracted over 10,000 spectators to the site.
Odyseas Athanasiou, CEO of LAMDA Development, said: “Handing over the first phase of the Sports Park to the public is a pivotal and deeply symbolic moment for the Ellinikon transformation. It’s the moment The Ellinikon truly opens to the world — giving citizens their first tangible experience of the new way of life taking shape at Europe’s largest urban regeneration project. For all of us, this is a major step forward in a journey that began years ago — driven by vision, perseverance, and unwavering belief in our goal.”
The Ellinikon Sports Park will operate daily from 18:00 to 23:00 starting 20 July, with extended hours expected from September onward.
