The newspaper The Guardian in Britain refers to “death” of the lake in northern Greece. As noted in recent years, the lake is polluted and dried so that the depth has been reduced from five to just one measure.
The story has also published in The Guardian and the French Le Monde says that five years ago that causes the lake, east of Thessaloniki, covering 45 square km area and had a depth of five meters. Today, the surface is reduced by one third and the depth is only one measure, so one can walk.
A key reason for the state of the lake is drying because of the lack of rainfall and the intensive irrigation for the surrounding crops. At the same time, the lake is polluted by both industrial wastewater facilities located in the region and from the drains of the city Lagadas.
