(Title) Members of the Council of Europe voted against the universal ban on the use of headscarves coverage of persons in Europe after a debate on Islam and Islamophobia.
In a text unanimously adopted, Council members recommended that 47 members of the organization to “do not adopt a universal ban of headscarves coverage of the face or other religious clothing, but to protect the free choice of women to wear or not a religious clothing “.
In addition, Members of the Council of Europe asked to ensure that Muslim women have equal opportunities to participate in public life and to the educational and professional activities.
” But the legal restrictions on this freedom can be justified on security grounds, “the text adds.
The text also condemns strongly the threats against life and the death penalty imposed against those who criticize Islam.
