The completely new, purely electric SUV Volvo EX90 arrived

The purely electric EX90 is ready and on its way: the first batch of our top SUV is already heading towards our Official Distributors in Europe and the United States, and the first customers will pick up their cars before the end of this month. We will increase the pace of deliveries, including more markets, between the last quarter of this year and the first quarter of 2025. EX90 is the new flagship of Volvo Cars and sets new standards for our company in security, sustainability and anthropocentric technology that makes people’s lives easier and more enjoyable. For the above reasons, during the trials of our new flagship we had high demands and pushed the car to its limits. Our CEO, Jim Rowan (Jim Rowan), tested EX90 thoroughly in recent weeks. Accompanied by colleagues, he made a trip with EX90, crossing the United States – from our factory outside Charleston, South Carolina to California. “Based on this trip, I can say for sure that EX90 is the best car we’ve ever built,” says Jim Rowan. “By driving it for 950 km crossing three states in the US, in various driving conditions and road surfaces, I only have positive memories. For charging, holding, comfort, quiet cabin and impressive sound system, reliability, technology and sense of User Interface (User Environment) – I have never driven a Volvo like this. EX90 is the beginning of a new era now beginning for Volvo Cars.” But not only do you need to rely on what we say: we recently invited hundreds of journalists from around the world to experience the quality characteristics of EX90, as part of the global media driving test, near Los Angeles, USA. The beginning of a new era EX90 also represents an example change for the company, as the first Volvo model based on a central computer. In-car AI computer is based on the NVIDIA DRIVE® platform. This central system, with the addition of Snapdragon® Cockpit Platform by Qualcomm Technologies Inc. and internal sophisticated software by Volvo Cars engineers, cooperate seamlessly to perform the important functions of the car, from safety and infotainment system to battery management. The result is an experience more seamless and with a more immediate response. Born smart and connected through integrated Google services and applications, EX90 is equipped with a range of sensors, including radar, cameras and a lidar provided by Luminar for enhanced security. The collection of data from the sensors, in collaboration with the constantly active 5G connection and the regular wireless software updates, allow us to continuously improve the characteristics of the car and develop its functionality over time. In other words, EX90 was designed to mature and evolve with you. “The Volvo EX90 embodies our future as a manufacturer of pure electric cars, with cars that are constantly getting better as time passes, thanks to central computer and software updates,” says Jim Rowan. “It is proof of the global engineering potential we have and confirms our leadership position in the ongoing technological transition taking place in the car industry. “ EX90 is based on our new generation technological base, designed as pure electric and has a driving autonomy of up to 600 km*. It is designed to be the safest car we have ever built, with a multitude of new generation passive and active security systems and software that receives information from a package of advanced sensors. EX90 is a car that displays many firsts. It is the first Volvo equipped with lidar, as well as the first with a central computer system. It is also the first Volvo designed to provide two-way charging capability, allowing customers to contribute to a more stable network and greater use of renewable energy than society. It is also the first car in the world to offer the Abbey Road Studios feature, included in the optional top sound system Bowers & Wilkins. The production of EX90 began earlier this year at our factory outside Charleston, South Carolina, USA. The plant has a capacity of 150,000 cars per year. In recent years, we made extensive investments in its facilities, renewing and expanding the body parts and the paint shop. The factory today also has a state-of-the-art battery production line. With these investments, our facilities in the US are well prepared for the start of this new era.
