The barrage of new hotels and reconstructions that change Piraeus

It continues to be a pole of attraction, as top tourist brands invest in creating quality accommodation in order to meet the needs of the ever-increasing number of tourists visiting the country. At the same time, apart from tourism investments, the region is aware of a strong investment activity in various sectors. The beginning of this development dynamic was marked by the official opening of the Pyrgos of Piraeus, a project that has in recent months contributed decisively to the upgrading and economic stimulation of the region. CORVERSE In this context it has recently become known that Wyndham Hotels & Resorts has signed a cooperation agreement with Zafido Holding Ltd for the development of a new hotel in Piraeus. The hotel unit is scheduled to enter into operation in September 2026 and will be housed in a building complex at 83 Kolokotroni Streets and Sotios Zeus. The hotel, which will have 65 rooms, will include, among other things, a restaurant-bar and a gym. After the deal Vassilis Themelidis, Regional Director of South and Eastern Europe of Wyndham Hotels & Resorts, the international hotel chain, in collaboration with Zafido Holding Ltd, is actively investing in the developing market of Piraeus, which is expected to become a top destination for hospitality in the coming years. Wyndham Hotels & Resorts manages approximately 9,200 hotels, with 893,000 rooms, in more than 95 countries and six continents, making it the largest hotel franchise company worldwide, based on the number of properties. CORVERSE In addition to TRYP by Wyndham Piraeus Port, the company recently announced a new partnership with DKG Development to develop Wyndham Residentes Piraeus Marina Zeas at the Zeas marina. Wyndham Residences will include 72 luxurious serviced apartments, most with unobstructed sea views, as well as a restaurant, gym, spa and multi-space events. So far, very high reservations are already presenting the brand new “Twinn Downtown Piraeus”, at 14 Herod Polytechnic Avenue and 14 Karaoli & Dimitrios Street, five minutes away from the Municipal Theatre of Piraeus, which also started in the early spring of 2024. The 33-room hotel, owned by Hellenic Properties, managed by Santikos Collection, which also has the other “The Alex” hotel in the port, also resulted from a reconstruction of an old building (former office building) after an investment of 5m euros. At the same time, significant redevelopment investments are made in Piraeus. In the late summer of 2026 the new Court House of Piraeus is expected to be ready. The work has already begun in the first phase, which concerns excavations and resistances, it is undertaken by AKTOR (formerly Intrakat), and for the second stage of construction a competition is expected. The new Judicial Palace will radically change the image of Piraeus and comes to be added to a redevelopment barrage that was to be implemented in the coming period, further upgrading the wider area. The largest redevelopment is however made by DKG Development and concerns Piraeus Gate. The largest and most iconic work the company has in the works, which is estimated to be completed at a depth of four years. At this stage, the process of issuing the required permits, which are quite time consuming, is under way, while some initial work has begun on the residential part of the project, concerning the dismantling of existing buildings. It is recalled that Piraeus Gate is divided into three phases and its goal is to transform a former degraded industrial area into a new neighborhood, including serviced apartments, shopping shops, office spaces and a large number of apartments
