With deep sorrow the Board of directors of Marfin Investment Group (MIG) was for the death of the founder of the Group, Andreas Vgenopoulos, from cardiac arrest.
Andreas Βγενόπουλος, was born in 1953 in Athens, he studied at the Faculty of Law of the University of Athens and was the founder of the law firm “Βγενόπουλος and Partners”. Since 1998 has been active in the investment and banking space, creating one of the largest business groups in Greece.
Andreas Βγενόπουλος was a distinguished athlete in fencing, champion of Greece with distinction in international competitions and a member of the Greek delegation at the Munich Olympic games in 1972.
In accordance with the wishes of the family the funeral will be held in a closed family circle.
Who was Andreas Βγενόπουλος
Andreas Βγενόπουλος was a graduate of the Law School of the University of Athens. He was a founder of the law firm “Βγενόπουλος and associates, while in his career he was among others Director of Human Resources in the “Thenamaris Shipping. He was executive chairman of the group Marfin Investment Group and vice chairman of the Board of directors of the “Diagnostic and Therapeutic Centre of Athens Health SA and Marfin Popular Bank.
Grandson of the former agent of the Greek football Andreas Vgenopoulos, who served as president of the Union of Football Clubs of Athens in the 1950’s. There has been a champion of Greece in the sword drills in 1972 and 1973 and in the sword duel, the 1972, 1973, 1974, 1975, 1977, 1980 and 1981, and won more than 45 medals in pan-European and Balkan Games in fleuret and in épée. He also participated in the 1972 Olympic Games. Served as contact person of Panathinaikos FC in the first years of professionalism and was honored for sports promotion in association with the Gold Clover.
In January 2008, proceeded with the creation of the Παναθηναϊκής United Movement (PECK), for the purpose of πολυμετοχικότητα or the acquisition of Panathinaikos FC and the strengthening of the amateur Panathinaikos.
