The Anastasiades departs for Geneva and critical discussions on the Cyprus problem

Nicos Anastasiades, departs tomorrow morning for the negotiations in Cyprus which will start Monday in Geneva. Tomorrow at 8 in the evening, mr. Anastasiades will meet with Turkish cypriot leader Mustafa Ακιντζί in order to determine the agenda of meetings between 9 and 11 January.
The Cypriot President will accompany in Geneva, the negotiator Andreas Mavroyiannis and the members of the negotiating team are the former minister of Foreign affairs Erato Kozakou Marcoullis, Cyprus Χρυσοστομίδης, Polys Polyviou, Panagiotis Dimitriou, Nikos Kleanthous, Τουμάζος Τσιελεπής, Marios Eliades, group of technocrats.
In Geneva, will go also leaders of all the parliamentary parties except the far-right ΕΛΑΜ.
The government spokesman stated that the presence of members of the National Council in Geneva will not be symbolic, since the leaders of the parties will have ongoing consultation with mr Anastasiades.
In the cypriot mission will also participate to the minister of Foreign affairs Ioannis Kasoulides, government spokesman Nicos Christodoulides, under secretary to the President Constantinos Petrides, deputy government spokesman Victor Papadopoulos and personal factors.
In addition, from reliable sources it became known that the European Union will represent the president of the European Commission, Jean-Claude Juncker, who is a good student of the Cyprus problem.
In the meantime, government spokesman Nikos Christodoulides said that regardless of who will represent Turkey in Geneva, the important thing is to indicate whether the Turkish side would attend the Conference with the mood for finding a solution to the important issue of security.
Mr Christodoulides said the Greek cypriot side has been properly prepared and is ready to cope with all the data that will emerge in Geneva.
“We are moving to Switzerland with the utmost seriousness and with a clear aim, but the result will depend entirely on the attitude of Turkey,” said the spokesman.
It also pointed out that the content of the letter Ακιντζί to the secretary-general of the United Nations, which puts forward the position that the agreed composition of the Conference of Geneva will be πενταμερής, contradicted by the developments and by the presence of the European Union at the Conference, on the upper level.
He reiterated that the Republic of Cyprus will be represented at the Conference, since it is a contracting party to the treaties of guarantee.
