The 36 dead from the flu, only 22% were vaccinated

people have caused complications of the flu last week, bringing the number of dead to 36, and only 22% were vaccinated, according to data from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
This is for 21 men and 15 women, with age range from 38 to 92 years. 35 (97,2%) of the 36 above-mentioned cases, they were in a clinical risk group, for which it is recommended that vaccination for seasonal flu and of those vaccinated were 7 (20%). The 29 deaths were patients who were hospitalized in the Intensive care Unit (ICU), and 7 deaths, patients without hospitalization in the ICU.
Total registered 168 serious cases of laboratory-confirmed influenza, of which 156 were hospitalized in the ICU. It is 104 men and 52 women, with age range from 1 to 98 years. 147 (94,2%) of the 156 mentioned above, severe cases with hospitalization in the ICU, they belong in a clinical high-risk group, and of these vaccinated was 34 (23,1%).
With regard to the cases of no hospitalization in the ICU, it is 6 men and 6 women, with age range from 71 to 95 years. 11 (91,7%) of the 12 above-mentioned serious cases belong in a clinical high-risk group, and of these vaccinated was 2 (18,2%).
Experts report that flu activity in Greece remains at high levels, the dominant subtype is A(Η3Ν2). Recall, that during the period of increased circulation of influenza virus it is recommended that the early administration of anti-viral in patients with severe symptomatology, especially in individuals with risk factors for complications from the flu, regardless of the vaccination history, without the need for laboratory confirmation of influenza.
