The 10th medal for our country at the World Robotics Olympiad 2024

World Robot Olympiad is one of the most important international events in the field of science, technology and education. Each year children and young people from around the world participate in it, in order to develop their creativity and their ability to solve problems through creative challenges of educational robotics. At the 2024 World Robotics Olympiad in Smyrna, more than 560 teams from 87 countries participated, with the Greek mission receiving top distinctions. The Greek bitLab team from Kalamata won 2nd place in the world with a silver medal and 1st place in Europe, bringing Greece the 10th overall medal in the history of the institution. The bitLab team was distinguished in the RobotSports category with specially designed robots that won the tennis robotics. Ally to this great effort is the , which has supported the development of educational robotics and STEM in Greece over the last decade through its strategic cooperation with WRO Hellas and STEM Education bodies, which organize the national competitions and the Olympic qualifiers each year. The distinctions of Greek teams BitLab from Kalamata was not the only Greek team to impress in Olympiad. Major distinctions in the world ranking were received by other groups of the Greek mission: BotanIQ, which took the 6th place (1st pan-European) of the Future Innovators High School class and presented a robotic system that evaluates soil conditions through chemical analysis and with data determines the suitability of soil and the variety of plants that fit it, as well as an automatic system for plant planting and care. The Robovision team was in 15th place (3 the pan-European) in the category Robotmission Elementary created a robot who was able to implement his missions in very good time. Also, the Earphones team reached 25th place (4th pan-European) in the world in the High School Robotmission category by creating a robot that helps restore a city after a natural disaster. The REM – Robot Ex Machina team at 42 the position (8 the pan-European) created a technological system to protect areas from fires and earthquakes. And the Yellow Squad team at 53 the position (12 the pan-European) of the Robotmission High School category with a robot turning a city into a more sustainable place with new parks, gardens in terraces and using renewable energy sources. COSMOTE’s contribution to the development of educational robotics and STEM in Greece COSMOTE, a member of the Telekom Group, having realised the importance of educational robotics and STEM, has been contributing to their dissemination steadily since 2014, promoting the development of children’s digital skills, broadening their technological horizons and supporting their dreams and original ideas. This year, they completed 10 years of continuous support for children through educational robotics, providing them with the tools they need and encouraging them to exploit technology, interest in science, cooperate and solve problems in resourceful ways. It is estimated that over 330,000 people have benefited from COSMOTE actions over the years.
