Greek Migration and Asylum Minister Thanos Plyris announced the revocation of a foreign national’s residence permit and the initiation of deportation proceedings against him. The decision follows a social media post in which, according to Plyris, the individual encouraged migrants to enter the coastal city of Nafplio illegally — falsely claiming that no border or immigration controls were being carried out in the area.
Identification and Legal Action
Speaking from Nafplio, Plyris stated that the foreign national — who held a valid residence permit in Greece — was identified by police authorities and is now the subject of a criminal file.
Combating Misinformation and Smuggling Networks
The minister emphasized that such videos spread disinformation and are routinely exploited by human smuggling networks to persuade people to attempt illegal entry into the European Union. He confirmed he had instructed relevant services to proceed with revoking the individual’s residence permit and launching formal deportation procedures, in accordance with the updated provisions of Greece’s Migration Code.
