The Austin Police Department has released bodycam footage showing the intense, rapid-response confrontation with 53-year-old Senegalese national Ndiaga Diagne — the suspect behind a deadly mass shooting outside a downtown Austin bar. Diagne killed three people and wounded 16 others before being fatally shot by officers in a gunfight captured on police-worn cameras.
Chilling Moments Captured on Camera
The footage shows officers rushing toward danger as they locate Diagne, who was armed with a rifle and standing in a corner near the bar. One officer is heard shouting, “Where is he? Where is he?” before firing approximately a dozen rounds. Seconds later, the same officer approaches Diagne, who had collapsed on the sidewalk, yelling, “Shots fired! Shots fired! The suspect is down!” before commanding him, “Stop moving.”
A Disturbing Appearance, Deadly Outcome
At the time of the attack, Diagne was wearing a hoodie inscribed with the phrase “Property of Allah” and a T-shirt bearing the Iranian flag — details that have drawn widespread attention and speculation, though authorities have not confirmed any direct link to foreign actors or motives. Police Chief Lisa Davis described the footage as “disturbing” and said several officers broke down in tears after watching it in the station.
Victims and Ongoing Medical Response
Among those killed were 21-year-old University of Texas student Savitha San, 19-year-old Texas Tech student Rynder Harrington, and 30-year-old Minnesota-based MMA athlete Jorge Peterson. Two victims remain hospitalized, one in critical condition. Most of the casualties occurred outside the bar, which features a large outdoor patio.
Austin police emphasized the speed and precision of their tactical response, noting that officers neutralized the threat before it could escalate further in the city’s central district.
