At least 59 people have lost their lives in the devastating flash floods that ravaged parts of Texas, with rescue teams still searching for dozens of missing individuals, including 24 children. The harrowing stories of survivors desperately clinging to life as floodwaters surged into their homes are both heartbreaking and shocking.
Amid the tragedy, videos capturing the fury of nature have gone viral, showcasing the sheer intensity of the disaster. One particularly chilling 37-minute video filmed by Gavin Wallston from a bridge along State Highway 480 documents the exact moment a massive flood wave hits. The bridge is located about 50 kilometers east of Camp Mystic, a Christian girls’ summer camp hosting 750 people when the floods struck early on the morning of July 4th, leaving destruction and death in their wake.
At one point in the footage — specifically at the 34:54 mark — a full house can be seen being carried away by the raging waters, tumbling down the river before crashing into a metal railing on the bridge. ‘Please do not victim shame: This is what a Texas Hill Country flash flood looks like,’ shared Houston Flood on Twitter.
Debris, tree branches, and trash begin to accumulate rapidly beneath the bridge as water levels rise, submerging entire trees and leaving nothing untouched. Rescue operations continue for a third day as officials race against time to locate the missing children and others still unaccounted for, all while facing the threat of even more severe flooding.
