In sweltering temperatures reaching 37 degrees Celsius, a 36-year-old mother left her 9-year-old daughter locked inside a car for eight hours while she went to work. The tragic incident occurred in Houston, Texas, where the young girl was found lifeless after being exposed to the extreme heat. According to reports, the mother had slightly rolled down the windows and left some water for the child in an apparent attempt to keep her comfortable during the grueling shift from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. at United States Gypsum in Galena Park.

Despite these measures, the vehicle was parked directly under the sun, causing internal temperatures to skyrocket. Harris County Sheriff confirmed that no one checked on the child during the mother’s absence. The 36-year-old was arrested but later released pending the results of the autopsy. In Texas, as in 21 other U.S. states, it is illegal to leave a child unattended in a vehicle.
