Tempi Tragedy: Victim Families File Support Statements Against ‘Obstruction’

in

In the ongoing investigation into the Tempi train crash, relatives of victims have submitted statements supporting the charges against former minister Christos Triantopoulos for breach of duty. The families of Christos Vlachos, Dimitris and Nikos Plakias, and Dimitris Massalis claim that actions and omissions by state bodies have caused irreversible damage to the integrity of the investigation and violated their right to uncover the full truth behind the deadly collision in Tempi.

According to sources, the families cite specific evidence pointing to the former minister’s alleged involvement in the so-called ‘tampering’ of the accident site. They argue that the premature and illegal restoration of the site occurred before investigative authorities could complete necessary evidence collection, thereby obstructing a thorough examination of responsibilities.

The relatives stated that the urgency with which those involved intervened at the crime scene — allegedly including Triantopoulos — indicates an intent to harm the legal and substantive rights of the victims’ families. They also emphasize that those involved acted with full awareness of the consequences their actions would have on clarifying the case.

Furthermore, the families expressed that these omissions have caused psychological distress by depriving them of clear and complete justice. The case remains under investigation at the Areios Pagos, with the former minister being examined over actions allegedly contributing to the concealment of key elements of the tragedy that cost dozens of lives.
