Students from across Greece honored the 57 victims of the tragic train collision in Temi with heartfelt tributes through music, marking two years since the devastating incident on February 28, 2023. Students from music schools in Ilion, Kalamata, and Katerini moved audiences with their performances dedicated to the memory of those who tragically lost their lives when two trains collided head-on.
The Katerini Music School’s fifteen-member council composed touching lyrics for the song “I’m Coming, I Won’t Be Late,” aided by fellow students, leaving an indelible mark in history for the victims who never made it home. The melody is based on Socrates Malamas’ “Back to the Deep,” whose permission was granted for use. The video uploaded to the Katerini Music School’s YouTube channel garnered over 13,200 views in just three days.
In Kalamata, students performed “Koilada ton Tempon” (The Valley of Temi) by Socrates Malamas and Thanasis Papakonstantinou in the city’s central square, stirring deep emotions among attendees. With guitars and microphones, the children added a poignant tone to the gathering, earning applause from the crowd.
At the Ilion Music School, students created a powerful graffiti mural of a train in the schoolyard and sang together, sending a loud message of remembrance and demand for justice. The mural, rich with symbolic elements, reflects both grief and the need for justice, while the music and voices provided an emotional depth to the event. In this way, the Ilion Music School joined thousands of citizens in ensuring the tragedy of Temi is never forgotten.
