In a startling incident in Thessaloniki, a 17-year-old Egyptian national was arrested early Thursday morning (May 14, 2026) for allegedly transporting two undocumented migrants on an electric scooter.
Arrest During Routine Check
The teenager was apprehended during a routine patrol by officers from the Hellenic Police’s Special Intervention Unit (DIAS) in the city’s Upper Town district. According to police reports, he was spotted riding the scooter with two foreign nationals—one from Nepal and one from Pakistan—both residing illegally in Greece.
Attempted Escape and Weapon Discarded
When officers signaled him to stop, the teen attempted to flee, continuing his ride before discarding a folding knife onto the roadway. He was quickly subdued and taken into custody.
Illegal Entry and Temporary Lodging
Investigations revealed that the two men had crossed into Greece illegally via the Evros border within the previous 24 hours. They had been temporarily staying in an apartment in Thessaloniki, and the minor reportedly agreed to transport them by scooter to another accommodation.
