Taxi Strike in Attica Today and Tomorrow: Protest March to Maximos

Taxi drivers in Attica are staging a 48-hour strike today (03.02.2026) and tomorrow. Athens will be without taxi services from 6 a.m. Striking drivers will gather at 10:30 a.m. outside their union offices and march to the Maximos Mansion. The sector rejects any dialogue with the Minister of Transport, holding him fully responsible for escalating industrial action. Key demands include: a gradual, not forced, transition to electric vehicles; a clear regulatory framework for taxi–private hire vehicle (PHV) operations with licensed drivers; curbing unfair competition and lack of oversight of multinational ride-hailing platforms; allowing loaded taxis access to bus-only lanes; ending arbitrary and punitive tax assessments; and withdrawing the controversial draft law on crowdfunding. According to SATTA, protests target the devaluation of the profession, hasty legislation, and political arrogance that treats taxi drivers as passive and voiceless. In Thessaloniki, taxi drivers will hold a separate 24-hour strike, announced by the ‘Hermes’ Association of Taxi Owners. A rally and march to the Ministry of Macedonia-Thrace will also take place there on Wednesday.
