Tax Declarations 2025 and ENFIA: Double Deadline with the Tax Authority

in

Thousands of taxpayers are entering the final stretch for crucial deadlines with the tax authority as March 17 approaches, when submissions begin, while property tax notifications have already been posted. Although payment of the tax resulting from the clearance of tax declarations may be delayed, taxpayers have only until the end of the month to pay the first installment of ENFIA. Generally, property owners must pay ENFIA in 12 equal monthly installments, starting by the end of March and concluding in February 2026. This year’s ENFIA also includes tax breaks and discounts. Notably, under new provisions from the Ministry of Finance, the bonus for those who insured their homes against natural disasters is doubled. Specifically, those who insured their properties against floods, fires, or earthquakes will benefit from a 20% discount (up from 10% last year) if the objective value does not exceed €500,000. Additional discounts apply for low-income households, families with three or more children, individuals with over 80% disability, and owners of incomplete buildings. Conversely, higher ENFIA payments will apply to those who acquired properties in 2024 through purchase, inheritance, or other means. Overall, the government expects to collect €2.43 billion from ENFIA this year. Additionally, 6.6 million taxpayers must submit their tax returns for the previous year using the new E1 form starting March 17. Many taxpayers are expected to benefit from recent legislative changes, including reduced income tax for property owners, elimination of professional fees for freelancers, benefits for workers on fixed-term contracts, and increased tax-free thresholds for farmers with large families.
