SYRIZA has positioned itself as justified in its initiative to submit a proposal for a pre-investigation committee, which includes Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis among others, to investigate potential misconduct related to the Tempi tragedy. With 33 signatures gathered—26 from SYRIZA, 6 from the Movement for Democracy, and 1 independent—the document was filed yesterday (04.06.2025) in Parliament. It is expected to go to a vote alongside three other proposals. The SYRIZA-PS proposal is described as comprehensive and legally substantiated, focusing on investigating possible criminal liabilities of six individuals, including Mr. Mitsotakis, concerning four offenses, two of which are felony charges. Members of SYRIZA emphasized their commitment to ensuring thorough investigations regardless of rank. They urged all parliament members to support their proposal and warned the New Democracy government against adopting a cover-up model similar to that of Triantopoulou. Meanwhile, Stefanos Kasselakis announced his intention to co-sign SYRIZA’s proposal, clarifying that supporting MPs would also endorse Maria Karystianou’s proposal. He stated, ‘The multiple crimes of Tempi leave no room for words; only actions matter.’ Despite acknowledging deficiencies in SYRIZA’s proposal, he affirmed that it includes a criminal investigation of Mitsotakis’ responsibilities, and Movement for Democracy MPs will sign it to bring it before Parliament.
