SYRIZA Opposes Triantopoulos’ Referral to Judicial Council, Demands Preliminary Investigation

SYRIZA has expressed its firm opposition to the direct referral of Christos Triantopoulos to the Judicial Council in the aftermath of the Tempi case developments. In a statement, SYRIZA emphasized its commitment to being the voice of society and justice regarding the Tempi scandal. The party accuses Kyriakos Mitsotakis of orchestrating a cover-up by opting for a one-day preliminary investigation to avoid appearing as a witness, knowing that SYRIZA would call him to account. The party demands the full conduct of the preliminary investigation committee to uncover all aspects of the committed crimes. SYRIZA criticizes New Democracy’s attempt to avoid the preliminary investigation, stating that citizens, whether ministers or not, do not choose the prosecutors and judges before whom they will be held accountable. This is determined by the Constitution, criminal laws, and the criminal procedure code. SYRIZA insists on parliamentary scrutiny first, followed by accountability and justification, rejecting any new attempts at cover-ups.
