Greek MP Andreas Panagiotopoulos has left the SYRIZA–Progressive Alliance parliamentary group. In a letter addressed to Speaker of the Hellenic Parliament Nikitas Kaklamanis, Panagiotopoulos—representing the Achaia constituency—announced his departure, stating: “I am withdrawing from the SYRIZA–Progressive Alliance Parliamentary Group and, as of now, will serve as an Independent MP for Achaia.”

A Strategic Shift, Not Resignation

Instead of resigning from parliament altogether, Panagiotopoulos opted for independence—a move that preserves his seat while allowing political flexibility. His decision appears deliberate and open-ended, suggesting he intends to assess evolving developments before committing to a new political path.
