SYRIZA Divided Over Mitsotakis Referral in Preliminary Investigation

in

Following the preliminary investigation against PASOK regarding Karamanlis, Spirtzis, and six ministers, SYRIZA is now preparing its own inquiry into the Tempi tragedy that claimed 57 lives. A teleconference today will discuss various opinions to reach a final decision. While there is agreement on referring Karamanlis for potentially multiple offenses and Christos Spirtzis, there is division over including Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis due to insufficient evidence from the documentation. The deposition of former PASOK MP Kostas Spiliopoulos, appointed by the Mitsotakis government as president and managing director ofOSE, is under review by legal teams. Meanwhile, discussions also involve Michalis Chrysochoidis, who served as Minister of Infrastructure and Transport from 2013-2015. On another front, former PM Antonis Samaras’ recent article has been interpreted as a step towards forming his own party, targeting the 19-20% of right-leaning voters without strong leadership. Additionally, Deputy Foreign Minister Taso Hatzipavliou is considered for an international role within the International Democrat Union (IDU).
