SYRIZA Demands Preliminary Committee for OPEKEPE Scandal – ‘Greece Must Be Freed from Mitsotakis’s Darkness’

in

On Tuesday, July 1st, the Presidency of SYRIZA’s Parliamentary Group issued a statement calling for the immediate establishment of a Preliminary Investigation Committee regarding the OPEKEPE scandal. The statement emphasized that the government led by Prime minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis has created a network of corruption and clientelism at the expense of Greek farmers. Recent revelations allegedly prove that the prime minister was aware of his associates’ involvement in the scandal.

The statement accused the current administration of normalizing corruption rather than treating it as an exception. SYRIZA insists that a Preliminary Committee must be formed without delay to investigate the large-scale scandal and accelerate procedures so that all implicated individuals named in the European Public Prosecutor’s Office dossier can be held accountable.

The Presidency of SYRIZA’s Parliamentary Group concluded by stating that Greece must move beyond the current government’s rule, asserting that elections and the formation of a progressive government are essential for the country’s societal revival.
