SYRIZA Criticizes Athletic Advertising on the Acropolis: ‘Offensive to Our Heritage’

The SYRIZA party has demanded explanations from the Ministry of Culture regarding the viral images on social media showcasing an advertisement campaign by a well-known athletic brand, captured using drones. In its official statement, SYRIZA expressed concern over the commercialization of Greece’s cultural heritage. The imagery shows an athletic shoe seemingly stepping on the Parthenon for promotional purposes. “This use of drones to display an athletic shoe stepping on the Acropolis is an offensive commodification of the core of our cultural heritage,” said SYRIZA. Furthermore, they questioned the criteria behind approving such campaigns while previously denying permission to renowned director Giorgos Lanthimos for filming in the archaeological site last month. This incident highlights what critics call ‘Greece 2.0,’ where complete submission to markets and big corporations undermines national treasures.
