Symeon Kedikoglou announced his resignation as a SYRIZA MP in a Facebook post on Monday morning (13 July 2026). The former MP accompanied his statement with a photo of himself alongside Alexis Tsipras — the leader of the newly formed progressive-patriotic party Enosi Logou, Axiopistias kai Symmachias (ELAS).
A Matter of Principle and Dignity
‘Reasons of consistency and personal dignity made this decision self-evident,’ Kedikoglou wrote, confirming his intention to join ELAS. He emphasized that he could not remain absent from this new political initiative, stating: ‘I stand in solidarity with ELAS to contribute — with all my strength — to a progressive, patriotic direction, now that hope is being reborn.’
A Thoughtful and Weighty Step
In his full message, addressed to supporters and colleagues, Kedikoglou described the resignation as neither easy nor taken lightly — but necessary, grounded in the principles and values guiding his political path. He recalled his long-standing commitment to building a fairer, more just, and honorable Greece, and noted that he had responded to Tsipras’s call for broader unity back in 2023.
Kedikoglou added that he had clearly and emphatically stated his intentions from the outset — and stressed that it would be inappropriate to vote on decisions shaping the future of a party he has chosen to leave. His resignation, he said, serves as a starting point — enabling stronger collective advocacy for citizens’ rights and contributing to the formation of a viable governing coalition.
He confirmed that he will formally submit his resignation letter to the Speaker of the Hellenic Parliament in the coming days, respecting parliamentary procedures and institutional norms. Concluding on a reflective note, he urged shared action and renewed belief: ‘Listening to the needs of our times — and to your own calls — I respond, and invite you to fight together, believing and hoping that the Ithaca of our aspirations is already emerging on the horizon.’
