Sylvia Pinal is “one of the most iconic figures in history” of the so-called golden era of Mexican cinema (1940–1960), pointed out in a press release released by the TelevisaUnion group. Beyond Buniel’s Viridiana film — Franco-Spanish co-production, it was banned at the time in Spain and condemned by the Vatican, yet it received the Golden Phoenix in Cannes in 1961 — the protagonist appeared in two other films of the exiled in Mexico director from Spain (in the surreal black comedy El Ángel Exterminador in 1962, also in the surrealist film Simón del desierto in 1964, in which she embodied Satan). Overall, she played roles in 84 films and 42 plays, TelevisaUnivision said, also highlighting her participation in television series — a total, content of 5,000 hours of the network.
