Suspicious Package Found Near ‘Great Britain’ Hotel in Athens Resolved

A suspicious package found near the ‘Great Britain’ hotel on Sunday evening (June 15, 2025) led to a brief evacuation in the University area of Athens. Authorities from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit (EOD) swiftly responded to investigate the object located at one of Athens’ central landmarks, the Great Britain hotel near Syntagma Square. Earlier, traffic on Panepistimiou Street was halted at its intersection with Vassilissis Georgiou Street as a precautionary measure. Around 11:00 PM, the evacuation was lifted, and the road reopened to traffic. Notably, earlier in the day, a large crowd had gathered in Syntagma Square to protest in support of Palestine.
