Super League and EPO Initiate Contacts to Amend the Law – AEK Disputes Announcement

The meeting of the Board of Directors (BoD) of the Super League concluded, addressing issues such as the abolition of the authority of the Permanent Committee for Combating Violence (DEAV) to impose automated penalties on clubs for throwing objects into the stands or onto the field. Additionally, discussions included eliminating the prosecutor’s ability to impose restrictive bans on players and coaches participating in matches. According to the announcement by the Super League, they are initiating contacts with the Hellenic Football Federation (EPO) to repeal or amend legislative provisions that infringe upon football’s self-governance. The decision was reportedly unanimous. The official statement from the Super League reads: ‘Unanimously, the BoD of the Super League has decided to authorize the President and Vice-President to take any necessary action in collaboration with EPO to repeal or amend flawed legislative provisions that violate the autonomy of football, such as the powers of DEAV to impose stadium closures and penal restrictions against players and coaches.’ However, according to AEK’s side, the Super League’s announcement is incorrect and baseless. AEK notes that while they generally agree to pursue changes in poorly written sports laws, they have not authorized anything specific, nor have they discussed criminal matters.
