How do their needs in women differ compared to men? Do women have special needs and sensibilities? Should certain subjects be more careful during the summer season? What and why women should be careful during the summer vacations is analyzed by Mr. Evangelos Gikontas Mater – Surgeon Gynecologist M.Sc. Hom : 1. Dehydration : It’s more sunny, that the issue of dehydration during the summer becomes particularly important. As the breath of the body increases, sweat with which water is evaporated from the inside of the body and therefore requires more and more regular water replacement. So it goes without saying that in the summer when we are losing more water we must drink more. This applies to both men and women. Women, however, also have the period, which is another aspect of body fluid loss. In the event of intense heat, the loss of water in the man is only by sweat and breath of the body, and the loss of fluids is added to the woman during menstruation. It is reasonable that in women of childbearing age, within the four months of June – September, at least four periods will appear, i.e. four phases where the woman consciously should increase water intake, because in these phases the risk of dehydration in hot countries and in case of heat is greater in women who have a period. 2 At some percentage of these women in the stairwell, the so-called dysfunctional bleedings of the stairwell will occur, where we have an abnormal period, many times and bleedings. In this case the combination with heat or high heat greatly increases fluid loss and therefore the need for greater intake. 3. Rapid pulses, arrhythmias: It is a fact that, in general, women have more splendours than men. During the excessive heat, the pulses of both men and women have an increasing tendency, due to the increasing speed of blood circulation and in this way we have more heat loss, which is very useful to us to avoid heat shock. So women, who in themselves have a relative rapid heart rate, in case of severe heat, even in case of heat shock, may experience an increase in heart beats, even arrhythmias. Maybe the body’s cooling will stop that. 4. Low pressure: Another factor that may deteriorate during heat is hypotension, i.e. low pressure. Women generally have lower blood pressure than men. In case of intense heat, where the body will exhibit vasodilation, in order to diffuse heat to the environment, the pressure of the individual will fall due to vasodilation. If the person has low blood pressure, its additional fall due to vasodilation may cause various phenomena, such as fainting episodes. 5. Finally, very well known is the feeling of heat that women who are in the pre-menopause phase , i.e. the stairwell , which we usually describe as hot. Flushing is a feeling of heat mainly in the face but also throughout the body, derived from angiokinetic and hormonal phenomena and causes. During this phase, the woman warms up even if she is in a cold environment, even if she is slightly dressed. So it becomes very easy to understand how difficult this heat phase is during the summer when all people are warm, let alone women who are hot. If we are with a woman who is in the phase of the stairwell, we should always bear in mind that she should be in an environment cool, hydrated enough, and not exposed for long to the intense sun, to avoid phenomena of heat shock. “It is very important to be sensitive to our fellow man who can be more vulnerable in summer. Empathy and love towards him, as well as respect, helps us all to live better, with mutual assistance and mutual support,” concludes Mr. Gikondas.
