Just over a month remains until the summer sales begin, with consumers eagerly awaiting this period to make their purchases for their summer vacations. The summer sales offer significantly lower prices on clothing, electronics, household appliances, and many more products. The summer sales are expected to take place from the second Monday in July (starting on July 14) until August 31. According to current legislation, stores can remain open on the first Sunday of the sales, which will be July 20, 2025. The recommended operating hours for that day are from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., though variations may occur depending on the area and store policies. During the sales, shopkeepers are required to clearly display both the original and reduced prices of items so consumers can easily compare. Meanwhile, in selected areas of Athens, Piraeus, and Thessaloniki, stores may choose to stay open every Sunday from May to October, except for the second Sunday in August. If this Sunday coincides with a public holiday, the exception is moved to the previous Sunday to ensure operational balance and protect labor rights. According to the law, optional Sunday store openings apply in the Municipality of Athens, including commercial triangle areas and other central neighborhoods; in parts of the Municipality of Piraeus with high commercial and tourist activity; in the Regional Unit of Southern Athens, such as Glyfada, Kallithea, and Nea Smyrni (if covered by the relevant ministerial decision); in the historic center of Thessaloniki to boost tourism; around Athens International Airport; and at the Yalo Business Park – Agios Dimitrios – Pyrgos in the Municipality of Spata in Attica.
