The summer sales of 2025 are set to begin in less than two weeks, with consumers eagerly preparing for shopping ahead of their summer holidays. Officially starting on Monday, July 14th, the sales will run through Saturday, August 31st, giving shoppers almost a month and a half to find great deals. Significant discounts will be available on clothing, electronics, home appliances, and more.
According to current legislation, stores may remain open on the first Sunday of the sales period — Sunday, July 20th, 2025. The recommended operating hours for that day are from 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM.
Throughout the sales season, businesses are required to clearly indicate both the original and discounted prices of products, allowing consumers to make easy comparisons.
Key rules for the sales include:
– Offers must clearly state the original and reduced price, including the appropriate unit of measurement.
– The previous price must reflect the lowest price offered by the seller over a minimum 30-day period (or 10 days if the product has been available for less than 30 days).
– If over 60% of a store’s products are on sale, this must be indicated in the storefront and other marketing materials.
– Different discount rates across product categories should display a range (e.g., “from …% up to …%”).
– Stock or outlet stores must clearly show the original price crossed out alongside the new discounted price.
– Misleading claims or inaccuracies regarding prices or discounts can result in fines up to 2% of annual turnover, with a minimum fine of €20,000. A second violation within five years increases the penalty to 4% of annual turnover.
These regulations aim to ensure transparency and fair practices during the summer sales season.
