Shocking footage from the Czech city of Zlín is circulating widely online after a major fire broke out at the former Bata shoe factory, triggering the partial collapse of the historic industrial building. The blaze erupted in the aging structure — once part of the globally renowned Bata footwear company — prompting an urgent response from emergency services.

Rapid Spread and Dramatic Collapse

According to Reuters, the fire took hold on the ninth floor and quickly escalated, engulfing the building in thick, billowing smoke visible from miles away. A viral video shows a large section of the factory crumbling in seconds — described by observers as collapsing like a ‘house of cards’. As the structure gave way, a massive cloud of dust rose into the air while flames continued to roar from within the ruins.

Large-Scale Emergency Response

Authorities deployed 290 firefighters, 75 pieces of equipment, and two helicopters — which conducted repeated water drops throughout the day. The warehouse was reportedly used for storing shoes and clothing. Fortunately, no injuries have been reported.

Ongoing Investigation

While the fire has since been brought under control, Czech authorities are still investigating the cause and circumstances surrounding the blaze. The incident underscores how rapidly industrial fires can compromise structural integrity — especially in older buildings — turning them into dangerous, unstable environments for both responders and nearby residents.
