A criminal prosecution has been launched against a 34-year-old student who assaulted the owner of a café in Zografou. The accused is set to stand trial at the Single-Member Misdemeanor Court on charges of dangerous bodily harm and refusal to be fingerprinted. The trial, initially scheduled, has now been postponed to May 9th, allowing the victim to submit her statement and for the student to undergo examination by a court-appointed doctor. Additionally, the defendant’s friend, where he was located, faces charges of aiding a criminal and making false reports to authorities while also being charged with possession of drugs for personal use. This incident follows a history of other cases involving the 34-year-old student, who was arrested on Tuesday (05/06/2024). The assault occurred on Monday around 1:05 PM at the Mechanical Engineering School of the National Technical University of Athens when a group of students attempted to post flyers at the café. When the manager intervened, one individual struck her. “I cannot accept that someone at work faces violence or assault, whether they are an employee or a student,” emphasized the café manager. The incident began midday outside the Mechanical Engineering School in Zografou’s Polytechnic City. About 15 individuals with helmets and sticks attacked passersby, including one young man. Students from a specific faction also assaulted the café employee. According to police sources, when the café manager tried to de-escalate tensions between two opposing factions, she was struck in the face by a student. Following the assault, police were called as required by law when crimes occur, and officers promptly arrived at the Polytechnic City.
