Starting last Monday (June 30, 2025), the special application of the Ministry of Education, Religious Affairs and Sports became available for electronic submissions by interested applicants for the academic year 2024–2025. Interested individuals must visit the official platform of the student housing allowance to submit their applications online. To access the system, applicants will use the username and password issued by the Independent Authority for Public Revenues (AADE) for TAXISnet services. The beneficiaries of the student housing allowance are defined as the person who financially supports the student, according to article 11 of law 4172/2013. In cases where spouses have submitted separate tax returns, only one parent may apply and must have declared all dependent children in order to correctly determine financial eligibility. For divorced or separated parents, the beneficiary is the parent who has the student listed as a dependent family member. Exceptions include students who are orphans, whose parents reside abroad, those over 25 years old, or those who are required to file a tax return and are not considered dependents under Greek law. Students pursuing a second degree, those exceeding the standard duration of studies, or those residing in university dormitories are not eligible. The allowance amounts vary by region: €1,500 for independent rentals in Attica and Thessaloniki, €2,000 for shared accommodations in these areas, €2,000 for independent rentals elsewhere in Greece, and €2,500 for shared housing outside Attica and Thessaloniki. Applicants are encouraged to submit their requests promptly and follow the platform’s instructions carefully to avoid errors that could lead to rejection. For the academic year 2024–2025, the rental property must be located within the same regional unit as the student’s educational institution, excluding the primary residence. Specific definitions apply for greater Thessaloniki and Attica regions.
