Weather changes are expected across several regions of Greece on June 20th, according to the Hellenic National Meteorological Service (EMY). Initially, clear skies will prevail throughout the country. However, by midday, clouds will develop, bringing showers and scattered thunderstorms, primarily in Macedonia, Thrace, Thessaly, Epirus, and the mountainous areas of Central Sterea and the Peloponnese. In Macedonia, strong thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds (known locally as ‘bourinia’) are forecasted. Winds will generally blow from the west-northwest at speeds of 3 to 5 Beaufort, with localized gusts up to 6 Beaufort in the eastern and southern Aegean. Temperatures will remain relatively stable, reaching highs of 35-36°C inland, 31-33°C on islands, and 34°C in the eastern Aegean and Dodecanese, including 35°C in southern Crete. Attica will experience partly cloudy skies in the afternoon with variable winds at 3 Beaufort, while temperatures range from 22°C to 36°C. Thessaloniki and other parts of Macedonia and Thrace will see increased cloudiness and local showers with sporadic thunderstorms in the afternoon. Strong weather phenomena are anticipated in Macedonia, with powerful thunderstorms and gusty winds. Ionian Islands, Epirus, Western Sterea, and Western Peloponnese will remain mostly sunny but could see local showers and isolated thunderstorms in the afternoon. Eastern Sterea, Evia, and Eastern Peloponnese may also experience similar conditions, particularly in mountainous areas. The Cyclades and Crete will remain sunny with northerly winds at 4-6 Beaufort. The eastern Aegean and Dodecanese islands will stay clear with northerly winds ranging from 4 to 6 Beaufort. Thessaly will be generally sunny but could see increased cloudiness and isolated showers or thunderstorms in the afternoon.
